Hopes & Dreams

When you were a child:

What did you want to do when you grew up?

Did you want kids?

Did you dream about your wedding day? If so, was your wedding day everything you hoped for?

What type of career did you want?

When I was a child, I would play "school" on my room with my stuffed animals as the pupils. Now that I am grown, the only thing that has changed is the pupils are real live people--no stuffing :-). As for my wedding, I never imagined all the emotions that went into the wedding--I just dreamed about the look--big beautiful church, Cinderella dress, candles ect...I think my wedding was all I had hoped it would be and much much more--thank you Kenny :-).

When I was a child I dreamed of being an archaeologist. Because I was fascinated with National Geographic and King Tut. Then, when I realized you couldn't really make a career of that I decided I wanted to be a physical therapist. Then, when I saw how much schooling was required I decided to just get a job and quit college. College was not my thing and I think I was just going because the guy I was dating at the time was going. Stupid reason, I know! On to weddings...I never really dreamed what my wedding day would be like. I just prayed for a christian husband who loved the Lord above all. I got it and much more! But...there were some things that I can recollect that were humorous looking back. I was way to stressed out the day of. I threw up 5 times prior to the ceremony. I screamed at everyone around me to leave me alone, stop touching my dress, stop messing with my slip under my dress, is the groom here. Post ceremony, but prior to the reception I kept bitching at the photographers who kept saying, "Smile", "Now look serious", "Now smile again". Then I couldn't believe how much my lower back was hurting because my dress was so heavy. Then it was off to the reception where I got no food because we had to greet everybody and I then I had to wait for Jason to get changed when it was time to leave. We were fighting about something stupid as soon as we drove off from the church, then we left our apt. keys at the church but didn't realize that until we got home. We packed our stuff and left for the hotel we were staying at in Las Colinas, got halfway there and realized I'd left my birth control pills at home. So, back home we went. It was crazy stressful. If I had to do it all over I would take time to just enjoy the moment. Stop stressing out about every little thing and be more grateful to all the people who played any part in our ceremony. Oh, and I'd use the bathroom BEFORE the reception. It was pretty chaotic for me, but it didn't have to be. I made it that way. Which if Brooke is reading this blog she will definitely attest to. Her wedding was the exact opposite. Calm, cool, collected--ENJOYABLE! They just went with the flow and had fun. It was great. Re: Kids. I wanted kids from day 1 of the marriage and so did Jason however we both agreed it would be about 5 years before we started trying. So it ended up being 7 before we got pregnant but it worked out in God's timing. We love being parents. It's the best job in the entire world bar none. I can't wait for you to be able to experience the wedding and child-rearing thing. Hope I haven't worn your eyes out reading all my drama....

Like Karla, when I was a child I thought that I wanted to be a teacher. I played lots of pretend school. I even sat on our steps going up to the 2nd story and drove the school bus to take my stuffed animals to school. Years later, I was meant to be married to a school teacher, not be one. It all worked out. I also dreamed of being a vet. Only if I didn't have to take care of cats!

I always wanted two kids. We also were on the 5-year plan, because we wanted to enjoy time together travelling and being with one another. It ended up being 6 years and we love travelling WITH the kids!!!

Oh course I dreamed about my wedding day and it came true. The only thing I hoped for was to eat some of our awesome food and cake at our reception. We were not given that opportunity until after the reception driving away in the limo when everything was cold and soggy. The cake was worth the wait!!! One other moment I never dreamed of that would be nice to change would be not sobbing down the aisle and then not shaking so hard at the alter that my flowers dropped their petals all around me on the ground. Other than that it went exactly as dreamed.

When I was a child, I always wanted to work with children. It's still a passion of mine.

I have always wanted to have kids. When I was a child, I told my Mom I wanted to have 5 kids! I still want to have a large family, but if I can not pop them out 2 at a time (like Karla did), then I will settle on having a couple myself, and then maybe adopting a couple.

I have always imagined a huge formal church wedding with a Fairy Tale dress with lots of friends and family attending......with a huge reception after the wedding ceremony with alcohol and dancing! Since I am older, I still invision a huge church ceremony with a huge reception with dancing and wine and beer! However, I do not want the "fairy tale" dress. I want a simple comfortable dress I can wear all day, and I do NOT want to wear heals. I want slippers! ;)

Heather, I am sorry your wedding was filled with chaos......Looking back, it's a great story to tell your children, and grand-children. I love hearing the story of my Grandparents wedding day! My Grandparents were married at Midnight b/c it gave them more time as Husband & Wife. My PawPaw was in the Navy and was being shipped out to see 3 or 4 days after they were married. Being married at midnight gave them 12 more hours of being Husband & Wife. It's the sweetest story!
